A new ranking of the world’s best cities has been released and there are seven British cities in the top 100.
The Oxford Economics Global Cities Index Arrange 1,000 cities based on their economy, quality of life, environment, human capital and management.
In 2025’s list, New York Take the crown and are described as the ‘economic capital of the United States’ and ‘in many ways the world’.
Second on the podium? London.
The report reads: ‘London can match the definition of a’ global city ‘more than anywhere else in the world.
“The city has established itself as a constant relevant place for business, science and technology, education and the arts.”
While the Big Smoke economy has helped to raise the rankings, London ‘really stands out’ as the ‘world’s leading city for human capital’, because of the ‘many worldly leading universities, diverse workforce and a large pool of international headquarters’.
The report adds: ‘London has defended the UK’s obstacles associated with Brexit and the turmoil of the Prime Minister’s office. The fear that Brexit would lead to a decline in the city as a global financial center was not realized. ‘

Bristol is the second highest to perform English city and ranks in 68th place. The city achieves high scores for economy and quality of life
Although London is highly in the rankings, its high housing expenses, low economic diversity and equality of low income are noted as weaknesses as weaknesses.
But London is not the only British city to earn a place in the top 100.
Edinburgh Land just outside the top 50 in 57th place. The Scottish metropolis is listed as an important example of a ‘cultural capital’.
Cultural capitals have a ‘high quality of life’ with many ‘cultural sites’ and a ‘considerable part of foreign -born inhabitants’.

Leds ranked in 83rd place and listed as a sustainable city. Sustainable cities are considered ‘prioritized sustainable growth’ and are ‘focused on the clean energy transition’.

Glasgow just makes the top 100, which is in 90th place on the index. It is especially high for quality of life
The last British city that is among the global top 100 Manchester which comes in 93rd place. Manchester, another ‘sustainable city’, is recognized for his high quality of life.
Paris takes third place in the overall rankings and is described as one of the world’s ‘economic power stations’.
San Jose, home to ‘most important technology companies’, including Apple, Meta and Alphabet, takes fourth place on the list. The report says that the California city ‘attracts some of the brightest thoughts around the world’.
Seattle concludes the top five because of its status as a ‘large technical sector’ and its high income per person.
Melbourne, Sydney, Boston, Tokyo and San Francisco also make the top 10 best cities in the world.
On the other side of the scale, Sokoto in Nigeria has last out of 1,000 cities with Sultanpur in India and Kaduna in Nigeria also under the lower three.
