President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Friday, led by the Federal Aviation Administration to raise the 52 -year ban on supersonic flight over the United States, marking a significant change in policy, which took place a few weeks after the legislators introduced bipartisan law with the same objective. The order asks the FAA to finish the supersonic land ban and create noise -based certification standards, allowing faster trips than, as long as any audible sonic boom reaches the ground.
“The reality is that the North -Americans should be able to fly from New York in less than four hours,” said Michael Kratsios, the director of the White House Science and Technology Office, told journalists on Friday.
The movement could help accelerate the development of commercial supersonic flights, including the efforts of Boom Supersonic. In January, Boom XB-1 demonstrator became the first Private developed Civil aircraft to break the sound barrier to the continental United States
He asked for comment on Friday, Boom’s CEO, Blake Scholl, wrote “Booooom!” In an email to Techcrunch. Scholl added, “the sound barrier was never physical: it was regulating. With supersonic legalization, the return of supersonic passenger air travel is only a matter of time.”
Trump also signed on Friday two future executive orders of the future: one to accelerate Drone marketing and electric vehicle Electrical takeoff development, and another to establish a federal working group Drone flight restrictions.
