Maybe Happy Ending wins the first Tony for South Korea


South Koreans are celebrating their first victory in the Tony Awards, which highlights the status of their country as a center of cultural power.

Happy Ending, which was probably the first to debt in South Korea, a decade ago, the construction of the Happy Ending Broadway won six Tonys, including excellent music.

The romance between the two Humanoid robots, which lives in an apartment building on the outskirts of Seol, is probably a happy ending. It entered on Sunday night’s awards ceremony with 10 nominations.

In 2024, before making his way to his Broadway with Happy Ending, former New York University classmates wrote music in English and Korean.

“It’s great!” Reads a post on the threads. “I heard the edition of the Broadway made even more bright. I’m so proud that Korea is becoming a real cultural power center.”

“It feels a dream come true for a Korean wave,” reads another post. “When the parasite won the Oscar, the Squid won the game buffalo, and Han Kong won the Nobel Prize.”

Former Glee star Darren Chris, who played one of the robots, won the best leading actor in music. This is their first Tony win.

It has won some of the top prizes in the Critics Circle Awards and Drama League Awards this year.

The first one Directed by Kim Dong-Yeyan, Happy Ending could be performed in Seoul in 2016. It has been revived several times in both South Korea and abroad – Korean and English.

South Korean artists have broken the ground in entertainment, especially in the last few years, with the success of Happy Ending with K-Pop acts such as BTS and Blackpink dominated music.

Some social media users say it also works as a window to Korean culture.

“It is surprising that Korean elements such as Jeju Island, Fire Flies, and Hwaban (a plant pot) are also kept in the broadway version,” the post reads in the threads.

“I am already proud to see the nomination of it, but this is even more special as you see the local audience responding very positively.”
