Trade negotiations between Indian and US officials were expanded next week, as both sides seek to achieve a consensus on reducing tariffs in sectors such as agriculture and cars, government officials shared with business today. It is expected that the discussions, originally scheduled for June 5-6, will continue until June 10, indicating the progress until July 9.
The US delegation, led by high -ranking officials of the US Trade Representative (USSTR), met with Indian negotiating participants, led by Rajeshaw in New Delhi last week. Both sides are said to focus on improving access to the market, reducing tariffs and unverified barriers and strengthening the supply chain integration.
The current talks are part of the gradual efforts to complete the limited trade agreement, with the hope of avoiding compensation for 26 percent mutual tariffs for Indian exports, which can reach by July 9.
Indian officials have shared the “predominance of the first engine” and hope that consensus can be achieved soon.
Although there is a consensus in general, the US is asked to open agricultural trade and diaries, which can harm local farmers in India, while India may also consider the WTO complaint against steel and aluminum, while continuing bilateral talks.
India’s exports to the United States have increased by almost 28 percent compared to last year to $ 37.7 billion in January-April, partly due to the rise in delivery ahead of the expected tariff campaign. Imports over the same period amounted to $ 14.4 billion.
