A European capital has been crowned the most lively city in the world, but this is bad news for the UK, as three of its major cities have fallen on the ranking since last year.
The Global Liveability Indeconity Unconomist Intelligence Unit Evaluate the world’s largest cities in 30 categories, including stability, healthcare, culture and environment and infrastructure.
Cities are then received an overall life degree from 100 and arranged accordingly. So, where is this year’s most lively city?
Copenhagen rises to the top of this year’s index with a high score of 98. Denmark’s capital has hit Vienna from the peak for the first time in three years.
It picks up scores of 100 for stability, infrastructure and education, while being assessed above 90 in each category.
Vienna slips in second place, partly due to a ‘sharp’ decline in the stability category. This category is ranked on the basis of the occurrence of small and violent crimeThe threat of terror, the threat of military conflict and the threat of civil unrest.
The Austrian capital has dropped its stability degree to 95, to a bombing for a Taylor swift concert in August 2024 and a planned attack on a train station in the city in 2025.
Despite falling from first place, Vienna still achieves 97.1 in general, which tied it up with Zurich.

The UK is not in the top -10 and three of its major cities are now considered less habitable as in 2024.
London falls nine places at 54th position, while Manchester also falls by nine to 52nd place and Edinburgh slides by five places to 64th.
According to the authors of the report, each of the British cities lowered their stability degree in 2025. This is partly due to the widespread riot that took place in the UK in August 2024.
Each of the cities still picks up an overall score above 80, which means residents have a few to camp, if any challenges for living standards’.
Melbourne and Geneva round off the top five most lively cities, while Sydney lands just outside sixth.
Melbourne achieves 100 for education and health care, while Geneva also picks up 100 in each of these categories.
Osaka, Auckland, Adelaide and Vancouver all make the world’s top 10 most lively cities.
The US does not have any cities in the top -10 rankings, but Miami, Portland, Indianapolis and Charlotte all improve on last year’s scores.

Tripoli, Dhaka, Karachi and Algiers all end up in the lower five viability positions.
Lagos, Harare, Port Moresby, Kyiv and Caracas also end up in the bottom 10 with the lifestyle statements under 50.
Barali Bhattacharyya, deputy operating director at EIU, says: ‘The global viability has remained flat in recent years, and as in 2024, the scores for stability have dropped at a global level.
‘The pressure on stability has led Vienna to lose its position as the most lively city after a three -year strike.
‘As in 2024, the stability dropped for Western Europe and the Middle East and North Africa. In this issue, they also decreased for Asia, amid sharpened threats of military conflict for cities in India and Taiwan. ‘
