Mega engineering banned from participating


The National Authority on the Indian Highway (Nhai) has rejected Megha Engineering & Infrastructions Limited (Meil) from participating in the upcoming applications for a period of one year. This action was taken as a result of the failure of Meil ​​to adequately carry out the slope protection work and create a proper drainage system in Cengale – the Neeleshwaram NH -66 section in Kerala.

Meil has been issued a reason for one year of suspension, which may also include a monetary punishment up to 9 rupees. The company was tasked with expanding the 77-kilometer section of NH 66 from Cengalo to the Talipam.

Authorities have caused Meil, recommending an annual disassembly and a potential monetary punishment of up to ₹ 9 crowns.

In response to the incident, an expert committee was formed, consisting of a senior scientist from the Central Dear Research (CRRI), a retired Professor IIT-Palakkad and experts from the Geological Service of India (GSI). The Committee will consider the design, evaluate the quality of the construction and propose correction measures.

The National Body on the main roads of India (NHAI) has stated that all the necessary measures are taken to ensure security and accountability in current and future infrastructure projects.

Last month, L&T started a case against MMRDA in the Supreme Court after refusing their application for two important infrastructure projects within the Mumbai Coastal Coast. The Tunnel Road project received applications from L&T, Megha Engineering and Infrastructions Ltd (Meil) and three other companies in July 2024.

The L&T application was rejected at the technical assessment phase, which made them acknowledge the Supreme Court in Bombay for review. The petition was rejected on May 20, 2025.
