The world’s safest country has been nominated, but the global peace levels have deteriorated since the latest global peace index.
The 2025 index, created by the Institute of Economics and Peace (IEP), also find that the world is undergoing “a fundamental reform of the world order”.
Researchers record 59 active state -based conflicts, most since the end of WwiiWith 100 countries becoming less peaceful than they were a decade ago.
Countries are ranked on the basis of both internal peace indicators, such as the level of violent level crimethe number of murders and violent protests, and external peace indicators such as military expenses, number Nuclear weapons and relationships with neighboring countries.

The Middle East and North African Region remained the world’s least peaceful area in 2025. Meanwhile, sub-Saharan Africa has the most conflict of 35 countries, with 35 of 43 countries involved in a conflict over the past five years.
According to the IEP, Kashmir, South Sudan, Ethiopia and Eritrea, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Syria are the regions that are the greatest risk of waging a great war.
South America is the only region that has improved its peaceful scores since last year’s index.

The number of countries considered ‘global influence’ has also risen, with 34 countries considered ‘significant geopolitical influence’ in at least one other country.

‘The global peace index of this year shows that the world is at a critical bow. It is powered by rising mid -level forces, major power competition and unsustainable levels of debt burden in the world’s fragile countries.
“This leads to a fundamental re -alignment and a possible point to a new international order, the nature of which still cannot be understood.”
