Anne Burrell was “in rather decent form”, says close friend

Burrell’s unexpected death has left many in distrust, including her long -standing friend and colleague chef, Elizabeth Falkner.
In a chat with Daily mailFalkner shared how the couple had recently reconciled, which made the loss feel even more personal.
“I think Anne looks like she’s in a pretty decent form today, so it’s a bit surprising to me,” Falkner said, remembers her dinner together on June 9 at Soho House in New York. “It’s just so suddenly and shockingly.”
The New York Fire Department responded to a report on cardiac arrest in Burrell’s apartment.
While the highest medical examiner still determines the cause of death, said those who saw her days before there were no visible warning signs.

Elizabeth Falkner’s last dinner with Anne Burrell

The last time Falkner saw her friend was just over a week before she left, at an intimate dinner party that Falkner was worth.
âI said,â Come to my dinner at Soho House, it will be amazing to see you. “And she brought her husband with her, and we just had such good time,” she remembered. “It was just so sweet.”
Burrell followed up the next day with a heartfelt message. “She’s like,” Thank you so much for inviting us. It was a really wonderful time and very delicious. Please send me some pictures so I can post. “
The evening left a strong impression on both women, who agreed to stay closer to the contact.
“We were like,” Let’s just make a point of talking and texting more often, “Raised Falkner.” I am very grateful for having that special night. I feel like (our friendship) has only cut really short. â

Anne Burrell found joy in family and life outside the limelight

Falkner shared that Burrell seemed to enjoy life in addition to the TV press and good food. “She just seemed to be in such a good place,” she said.
“She said she liked being a stepmother very much,” revealed Falkner and referred to Burrell’s 20-year-old stepson, Javier. “And her husband is so cute.”
Balancing life as a chef and TV personality is no simple performance, but Falkner thought her friend had found peace.
“Because being a chef and being a TV personality is two big full-time jobs, but enjoying your life outside it can be challenging. And I think she definitely enjoys her life outside the world in networks and all that.”

Grief ripples through the culinary community

The culinary world griefs one of its own.
“I know it’s very personal to me what happened, and I can’t believe anyone even younger than I’ve just passed away,” Falkner said. “It’s close to home for all of us. The culinary family is like a family, so it hurts many of us. We just know it.”
Anne Burrell and Falkner had known each other for several years, with temporary run-ins at events and parties, including a memorable moment in Rome 2021 before Burrell married his husband, Stuart Claxton.
Falkner remembered his late friend as both a powerful presence and a warm spirit: “She is one of the people who is kind of scary and certainly hardcore that chefs can be … but she was definitely very sweet.”

In addition to her revelations in the interview, Falkner also paid tribute to Anne Burrell on Instagram. She shared a photo of those who posed with smiles while she swung similar clothes and hairstyles.
In the post’s captions, Falkner wrote“I know we are all in shock to hear about our friend @chief manager. I only connect to Anne last week when I was in NYC, and we said: Let’s just make one point to talk more often and meet when we can.”
She continued, “It’s always so strange to publish things on Instagram like this, but I just want to say that I always admired her and her cooking. We hung back in the OG days too late nights in new here and there.”
Falkner described Burrell as a “hard and fun culinary competitor”, and added, “when we did the next iron chef together years ago, we were competitive, but we had fun too. Especially one night when we went karaoke and sang in Santa Monica.”
She also wrote, “and it was so good to see her last week and I feel blessed that she came to my dinner and she thanked me abundantly for inviting her. We made a promise to become even better friends.”
Falkner concluded, “You will be seriously missing, chef.”
