A solo travel content creator shared her honest views on where she feels unsafe as a woman – and one of her choices is a very popular European destination.
Savanna Crowell, what the @solowithsav Tiktok account, describe herself as ‘your go-solo travel girlie’.
In a recent video seen nearly 500,000 times, the traveler in New York revealed three places where she didn’t feel safe.
Her first destination with a red flag is France – The world’s most visited country, with 102 million international tourists arriving in 2024.
She told her 54,000 followers that she “had some uncomfortable situations in the country”, with problems in a number of places.
“On my first solo trip to Paris, I almost cheated through the ‘petition scammers’ at the Louvre,” she said.
Petition spirits often suggest as charitable workers or requesters who may talk to tourists about worthy causes – before putting pressure on them to hand over money.
“When I tried to get out of it, they became very aggressive … Fortunately, I could get out of it, because there were many other people around me.

Savanna also had problems in Nice, a beautiful city on the French Riviera.
As she walked alone along a street, a man ‘got out of the bush with a pointed stick in his hand’.
Savanna goes on to say that he “starts to chase me in the road, finally throwing the stick to me and laughing”.
Despite the popularity of France, a number of other holidaymakers in the comments department expressed their unfortunate experiences in the country.

Another user shared a story from a trip to Nice with her husband having a simple stop in a pharmacy.
“He bought sunscreen and sunglasses and we walked out and on our way out was stopped by a guard and we were taken to a back room where they accused us of stealing,” @Katieter01 said.
“They went through our bags and bags and threatened us with the police, but didn’t even tell us what they thought we had stolen.

“We stole nothing and eventually another driver came and said that we could leave, but it was very narrow that we were kept in this room with guards for a while.”
One person said she had “a guy in France”, although another wrote that they felt “Super Safe in France Travel Solo”.
The second country that made Savanna feel unsafe was Mexico, a place where she admits she likes to travel around.
“I had an uncomfortable situation with a man once on a beach,” she said.
I sat and considered my own business when he arrived, approaching me, but began to ask his towel directly next to mine and my very uncomfortable questions – such as where I stayed, how long I was going to stay.
“Just many invasive questions where my guts tell me ‘I have to get out of this situation’.”
Savanna waited until the man went into the sea before grabbing all her possessions and ran from the shore.
Her third and last country to warn about is Nicaragua, the Central American people between the Pacific and the Caribbean.

Unfortunately, this was the place where the content creator hampered the most.
“It seemed like I went all over the street, when a man passed, he had to say something or make a sound – something that made me feel uncomfortable.”
It was so bad, Savanna said she just wanted to walk on many busy streets.
Despite her experiences, the travel enthusiasts acknowledged that she would return to all these countries.
