As the people of the earth say: Okay, hey, I love you. This article contains spoilers for “Elio.”
Pixar has made movies since about the time I was born, so it’s a small Odd to get involved in debates about the studio has become long in the tooth and are now fighting for relevance in its old age. Sure, the so-called golden era from the late 90’s to the mid-2010s can be removed further and further into the rear mirror. But many of its films in the Pandemic era have compiled solid reviews, considered as Box Office hits and fill an important niche among the children that very few competitors seem interested in doing longer. “Elio”, which I examined quite positively for /film hereWill probably not go down as a large turning point ™ in any respect. It is a fun, sweet and emotionally engaging adventure that appeals to all nerds and outsiders among us- which is all it really needs to be, honest.
But how about what’s coming now? “Elio” does not necessarily Lay the foundation for a sequel, although one can easily imagine how it can happen along the line. Elio (expressed by Yonas Kibreab) ends the film by making a heartbreaking but remarkably mature decision: Although Elio is finally welcomed with open arms in the municipal mile, a cosmic collection of all the Galaxy’s greatest senses and leaders, Elio chooses to return home with his Tia Olga (Zoe Saldaña) to the earth. It is not just about adding his star-eyed dreams of acceptance among the foreigners that he is sought after for so long, but it also means that he can no longer see his newfound bestie, the tardy-like foreign Glordon (Remy Edgerly). As its clear inspiration “et the extra terrestrial,” The ingredients are available for a waterworks show unlike everything we have experienced since “up” or “inside and out” … but that is not really the conclusion of the story.
Those who stay for the final credits are also for a welcome surprise – one that gives a nice, emotional button to a friendship audience will have been extremely invested in.
Elio’s Mid-Credits scene gives the movie full circle
Pixar movies have never shot away from the entire spectrum of emotions we experience in lifeAnd “Elio” is no exception. The film begins on an extremely melancholy note and illuminates the title character’s one loneliness when he silently mourns the latest loss of both his parents. Tia Olga tries his best to take care of her Rambunctious nephew, but she is also human. When Elio hears his ventilation of her frustrations to a friend and decides that she does not actually want to take care of him anymore, he puts his views on space and will basically be abducted by extraterrestrials. Although some funny political negotiations with the terrible Lord Grigon (Brad Garrett) have gone terrible wrong, Elio finally helps the day with Glordon. But even that is not enough to avoid the fork on the road that Elio has comfortably ignored for most of the film.
When Elio decides to go back to earth rather than staying in the municipal mile, everyone understands where he comes from and why he chooses to do so … even a tough Glordon, who realizes that this may be the last he ever sees of his best friend. It is a bold bitter sweetness that ends on what turns out to be an emotional complex film. But rather than ending things for Much of a Downer, the middle of the point scene helps to soften the battle just a little. We return to Elio on earth with another new friend named Bryce (Young Dylan) when they build some kind of communication equipment on the beach – the same where Elio was chased by bullies and abducted in the first place. When he fits with his long -term radio, we suddenly hear a very familiar voice that breaks through the static: Glordon. Even when they are separated by countless light years, the two friends will not be completely alone. For a movie that deals with connection and belonging, it is a very brief way to put a bow on things and bring “Elio” full circle again.

But wait, there is even more! “Elio” holds another surprise in the sleeve to turn off the credits and reward everyone who stopped despite no promise of any form of Marvel style. In an unexpected feature, however, the studio apparently couldn’t help but include another sweet installation for the next Pixar original to come: “Hoppers.” What makes this final credit feel so unusual is that it absolutely has nothing to do with the movie we just watched. When the credits end on “Elio”, we suddenly hear a computerized voice that repeats the same word over and over – “Lizard. Lizard. Lizard.” It soon becomes clear that this is the result of a real lizard that is constantly pressing buttons on a phone, which comes into a lizard emoji without intentions to stop. This goes on for a little while longer without any other explanation, until the title card for “Hoppers” shows up and everything (kind of) clicks into place.
For those who have read /film (and it should of course be all of you) you will be better prepared than most to find out what is happening here. As explained in our latest description of “Toy Story 5”“Hoppers” is the studio’s next original film, focusing on a young environmental activist named Mabel (expressed by Piper Curda) who is desperately trying to save a nearby happy from being destroyed to make room for a highway. To warn the animals in their danger, she uses advanced technology to go undercover as a beaver and live among them. To communicate with people during disguise, however, the film comes with a fun little solution: text-to-number on mobile phones. That’s exactly what we see the green lizard at the end of “Elio” do and I guess it’s as good as everyone to get this movie on everyone’s radar.
“Hoppers” will hit the big screen on March 6, 2026, but “Elio” is now playing in theaters everywhere.
