Judge Greg Mathis facing a new trial that seemingly paints him as a hothead! A Los Angeles city worker is suing Mathis for allegedly threatening his life. According to court records TMZ obtainedoccurred the event in July 2023. More than a year later, named the city worker Ricardo Acosta looking for his get back!
He is suing for assault and emotional distress and is seeking an unspecified amount in damages.
Details of the incident between Judge Mathis and city workers
Ricardo Acosta claims he was on shift with the LA Department of Water and Power when Greg Mathis confronted him. Then the city worker was working in front of the TV referee’s residence and his dump truck blocked the driveway.
Mathis started to go off as he tried to back out of the garage but couldn’t. He allegedly got out of his vehicle and approached the back of the dump truck while jumping off the city worker. In one instance, the TV referee reportedly told Ricardo to “move the damn truck out of the way.” When Acosta asked Judge Mathis to move behind the truck for safety, he allegedly drove off again. Court docs claim Greg said he didn’t “give a**k” and challenged the city worker to “run him over and see what happens to him.”
Afterwards, Judge Greg Mathis allegedly went into his home and returned with a gun. While waving the weaponMathis allegedly threatened to “hit a cap” on Ricardo Acosta. Finally, the celebrity jumped into his car and drove off, but not without another threat of “bust a cap.” TMZ first reported the incident in July 2023 via law enforcement sources.
Mathis’ lawyer reacts to lawsuit
Meanwhile, Judge Greg Mathis’ legal team appears unfazed by the legal filing. His lawyer, Anahita Sedaghatfar, called the suit a “last ditch effort” at financial extortion.
“Mr. Acosta’s recitation of the ‘facts’ simply does not match what actually happened during the incident, which occurred over a year ago,” Sedaghatfar said in a statement to TMZ.
She stated that the report filed with the Los Angeles Police Department contains “many demonstrable falsehoods.” Additionally, the attorney said Judge Greg Mathis feared for his and his family’s statements because of threats allegedly made by Ricardo Acosta and other city workers. The reality TV star also claims he felt falsely imprisoned in his home by the dumper.
“That the LAPD did not even investigate Acosta’s claims speaks to their lack of merit. Should Acosta pursue this lawsuit, we will not only vigorously defend the case, we will file cross-claims against Acosta for his illegal conduct and repeated defamation of my client.” said the lawyer.
Judge Greg Mathis has not made any direct statements about the lawsuit. Most recently, he and his wife, Linda Reese, talked about getting back together after she filed for divorce.
