His Excellency Turki Alalshih said in an interview today that Terence Crawford “will fight after May. He has a “small injury” but will be ready to fight in the first half of 2025.
Turki did not say who Crawford’s (41-0, 31 KO) potential opponent would be, but he said he wants to talk to Canelo Alvarez one-on-one “with no one in the middle.”
He could try to fight Crawford, who would have to move up two weight classes to 168 to challenge Canelo for his only super middleweight title.
Crawford has not expressed interest get a title shot against Canelo by moving to either contender at 168. After his trouble with Israel Madrimov at 154 on Aug. 3, it’s understandable why he’s reluctant to do so.
Turkish statement
“I don’t know anyone from Canelo’s team and I have no connection, but if he hears me, I’m ready to discuss what I want to discuss, me and him, directly without anyone in the middle.” His Highness Turki Alashikh said to Ariel Hevvani channel On wanting to finish the fight between Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford.
“He’s got a little problem with his health, but he’d rather fight us after May,” Turki said of Terence Crawford’s injury.
If Turki doesn’t give Canelo a deal to fight Crawford, that leaves the Nebraska native with some tough options in the 154-pound division. This weight is combined with dangerous sharks that feast on the elderly Crawford, who approached Madrimov on August 3.
Canelo is already sitting on a fortune estimated at a quarter of a billion. He’s not losing sleep over refusing to fight Crawford, who is using Mayweather’s plan against him. Canelo doesn’t want to deal with a mover and a clincher at this late stage of his career, especially in a winless fight where he won’t get credit if he wins.
If Canelo fights for the win, it will make Crawford look great and tarnish the Mexican star’s legacy. Canelo’s market is going down while Crawford’s is going up. Unless Turki offers Alvarez $180 million, I don’t see the Terence fight happening. You have to understand that whatever Canelo is asking for, Crawford is going to want similar dough and it’s not going to bring in a lot of PPV buys.
Bud is completely unknown to casual fans. He was NEVER popular during his career because he has no fun style and was never popular. Fans who saw Crawford fight Errol Spence thought he would always fight like this, but that’s not the case. He only looked good in that fight as Spence was a shell of his former self due to injuries from two accidents, eye problems, inactivity and weight gain.
