Trevor Lawrence was placed on injured reserve after a dangerous hit that could end his season
John Runyon, NFL vice president of football operations, announced in a lengthy letter that Al-Shair would be suspended without pay, calling the hit “unacceptable and a serious violation of the rules of the game.”
The hit led to a scuffle between the two teams, but Texans head coach DiMeco Ryans said the Jags overreacted.
“Unfortunately, Trevor got hurt. I hope Trevor is OK, but this, too, if we’re sliding, we have to step down. If we’re sliding out of bounds, we’re out of bounds, and that rule is there to protect the quarterbacks, and we want our quarterbacks to be the safest in the league, so if we’re sliding, we get our heads down. Make sure to put down the whole thing Aziz – he hit the guy, but his sideline was too much reacts and it turns into a melee.
“It wasn’t our guys. It was their team overreacting, pushing our guy, pulling our guy to the sideline, so that end wouldn’t get called. We’ve got to be good with both teams.”
