A social media influencer has ignited a global debate about safety with a viral video highlighting Dubai’s safety profile. Instagram influencer Leilafshonkar conducted a daring experiment to test the city’s safety standards.
The video, reportedly shot on Dubai’s busy Satwa Street, known for its eateries and clothing shops, shows the influencer, dressed in a brown vest and black shorts, leaving a gold necklace and earrings on the hood of a parked blue BMW amid the bustling street.
The influencer then returned to a nearby jewelry store to monitor the reaction of passers-by. To her surprise, despite the large number of people, no one tried to take the valuables. The video also showed the woman picking up an earring that had fallen to the ground and placing it back on the car.
Expressing her disbelief, Leilafshonkar said: “Half an hour passed, and no one touched this gold. And tell me that Dubai is not the safest country in the world. This is crazy. It’s crazy.”
The message was signed “Happiest national day, my UAE.”
The video quickly went viral, garnering millions of views and sparking a heated debate on social media. While many praised Dubai’s safety, some questioned the legality of the experiment. Others compared the scenario to other countries, particularly India, suggesting that the outcome might have been different elsewhere.
One social media user shared the video on X asking: “Is Dubai really that safe? Or do they pay influencers to do this kind of marketing?”
One user commented, “Please try in India” while another wrote, “India has 0.01 seconds to disappear”. A third user said “Dubai is the safest city in the world.” Many others humorously suggested conducting an experiment in “Bihar or Uttar Pradesh.”
One user noted, “It’s a fake, the girl in the white shirt who walked by is her friend in the store next door, at the end of the video she’s waiting in the back” while another jokingly said, “The first girl in formal wear to take the gold is in the store.”
