In 2015, screenwriter Max Landis sold his most recent screenplay Deeper to David Goyer’s production company, Phantom Four. Despite MGM taking it up again the following year, nothing has come of the project since. Various A-list stars like it Bradley Cooper, Idris ElbaAND Gal Gadot they were attacked before abandoning before being further hindered allegations of sexual assault against Landis in 2017. Now, it looks like the project is coming back to life once again, this time via Tom Cruise and Doug Liman.
Liman recently hosted a screening of the upcoming documentary Gaucho Gaucho, where he said Showbiz411 he and Cruise were collaborating on a “horror film”, something he said neither he nor Cruise had ever done before. (Damn, go away The Mummy restart out to dry, huh?) How Soon noted, the Cruise/Liman reunion was first reported earlier this year by Daniele Richtmannwho claimed that Warner Bros. Discovery would produce the film, as the studio is already working with Cruise Judy, his next collaboration with Alejandro G. Iñàrritu.
In case you forgot, the plot of Deeper (at least, as was the case in the past) centers on a shameful NASA astronaut who went underwater to check out a newly discovered ocean trench, believed to be the new lowest point on the planet. During his journey, the astronaut finds himself in a physical and mental battle of wits against “mysterious forces.” It has been compared before The Martian AND Severity in terms of tone, and you have to say that the comparison still holds up today. We’ve already seen Tom Cruise take the plunge, but if this movie finally gets made, it might be a while before we see it: in the meantime Judy, Mission: Impossible: The Final Showdown, AND throw your ass into space for him and for Liman other movie, it’s pretty busy.
