Missing hiker found dead with dogs: Murder accused husband arrested in ‘fear of life’


Divorced husband of Oregon woman A missing hiker was arrested and charged with murder after her body was found along with two dead dogs believed to be hers.

The body of 61-year-old Susan Lane-Fournier was found Friday morning, the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office said.

Detectives arrested Lane-Fournier’s estranged husband, Michael Fournier, 71, shortly after finding her body and booked him into jail. Charges of second degree murder.

Community members reported Lane-Fournier’s white 1992 Ford F-250 parked near East Salmon River Road and Green Canyon Way Trail south of Welches, prompting a multi-day search by several law enforcement agencies.

Authorities confirmed that Lane-Fournier and Michael Fournier were married at the time of her death. However, according to court documents obtained by local station KPTV, Lane-Fournier had filed for divorce two weeks before her disappearance.

On Saturday, the Oregon State Medical Examiner’s Office performed an autopsy and ruled Lane-Fournier’s death a homicide.

Her body was found near property the couple owned in Brightwood, according to court documents.

Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office Two dead dogs believed to be Lane-Fournier’s were also recovered.

The dogs were transferred to the custody of the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office, where investigators are working to confirm their identities.

A co-worker of Lane-Fournier told KPTV that before her death, she said she “feared for her life.”

“Before she went missing two weeks ago she was afraid for her life, that’s why she brought the dogs with her all the time,” Khalid Kamahwe told the outlet.

Officials initially called off the search last week, citing “weather conditions and the possibility of survival.”

Detectives are asking anyone who saw Michael Fournier or has knowledge of his activities in the days leading up to Susan’s disappearance to call the Sheriff’s Office at 503-723-4949.
