In a civil servant press releaseBroward County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that a shooting took place in Lauderdale Lakes on Thursday, November 28, resulting in the death of Hureleyon McLean. PEOPLE reports that deputies arrived at the scene around 3:30 p.m. local time, where they found McLean suffering from a gunshot wound. He was later pronounced dead at the scene.
Rose McLean, Hureleyon’s wife, said New York Post that she and her husband had been celebrating Thanksgiving with loved ones when the shooting occurred. She said the neighbor, who lived in the unit below her apartment, came over to complain about their loud music. Rose told WSVN that she heard the shot and immediately searched for Hureleyon.
“I heard the shot, ‘boom’, and I just fly to the door. I see my husband lying face down in the blood.” Rose said.
After the incident, Rose confronted the alleged suspect accused of murdering her husband, but he showed no remorse for his actions and even threatened to take her life.
“He was just standing there looking at me with his gun in his hand. And I walk up to him and say, ‘Why did you shoot my husband? Why?’ And he told me, if I didn’t shut my mouth, he would shoot me too,” Hureleyon’s wife explained.
Rose said Hureleyon worked as a private bus driver and left behind two sons and grandchildren. In addition, she expressed that it has been “very difficult” to lose him because they spent too much time together.
“Wherever he is, I’m always with him. We’re like a team together. For him to be taken away like this, believe me, it’s very difficult.” Rose added.

According to PEOPLE, authorities have not released the name of Hureleyon McLean’s neighbor, the man suspected of shooting him. The New York Post states that the suspected shooter stayed at the scene and cooperated when he was arrested and interviewed by police. The suspect reportedly claimed he acted in self-defense during the incident. After the investigation, officials confirmed they would turn the case over to the Broward County State Attorney’s Office to decide whether to file charges.
