Supplemental security income recipients typically receive their checks at the beginning of the month, but that won’t happen in December. SSI payment dates can change depending on what day the month starts, and that’s what will happen this month. Below we’ll tell you why the check you’ll receive this month isn’t actually for the month of December and why it will be late.
Supplemental Security Income is a program administered by the Social Security Administration. It benefits qualified beneficiaries with limited income and resources and individuals with qualifying disabilities. Children who are blind or have disabilities are also eligible for SSI.

SSI Payment Schedule: Here’s Why Your Check Will Be Late
Here’s when you can expect to receive SSI payments for the rest of the year.
- Friday 29 November (for December)
- Tuesday 31 December (for January 2025)
Since the first day of December is a Sunday this year, the check was paid on Friday, November 29th. Therefore, the beneficiaries have already received the check for December. Since January 1st is a holiday, the first payment for 2025 will be sent on December 31st.
If I receive other Social Security benefits, will I receive those early too?
No. In most cases, each Social Security benefit has a simple schedule, with only a couple of cases where it may deviate from the typical schedule. For your information, below is the November Social Security payment schedule.
