Bill Haney is still trying to change the minds of fans and rewrite history about his son, Devin Haney’s loss to Ryan Garcia earlier this year. He still seems very sad about the loss of Hani, which has taken away the aura of invincibility from the former king.
Papa Hani took to social media today to note that Devin (31-0, 15 KOs) defeated Kingry in eight twelve rounds by three counts in their fight on April 20 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. He even produced score sheets to prove it. Bill appears as he does they want to justify what happened on that dark and cold night.
The point is, Haney would have won the fight if he had made some adjustments after the seventh round by taking Ryan’s left hook. He should be like that. Bill should have lit a fire next to Devin after the seventh to keep his right hand up to catch Ryan’s left hand, but he didn’t.
Unfortunately, Garcia knocked Hani out three times in the fight, hitting the deck hard in the seventh, tenth and eleventh rounds. The viewing from the seventh round was very brutal, especially when the referee disallowed Ryan without warning for a strike on the break.
“Everybody else who screwed it up, Devin walked away and said God makes no mistakes. Eight rounds clean. Eight rounds won. All over the referee’s score sheets. Ostarin man can keep his knockouts, truth always. Name So is Hane It’s locked,” said Bill Haney X.
Hani somehow went the distance, but lost a 12-round majority decision. The defeat was later overturned and banned due to Garcia testing positive for the PED Ostarine.
Hani could make it back with Garcia in 2025 after Kingry’s one-year suspension expires. This involves some tough negotiations. Ryan is expected to return in April, but it’s unlikely he’ll get a top-level fighter right away. There is some good money that Haney could make in this second fight if they get a deal.
Hani’s gym workout clip was released today and she looks in good shape. His weight has been reduced and he should have no problem returning to the ring in early 2025. Teofimo Lopez recently noted that he offered Haney $2.4 million to split 55-45, which he turned down.
If Hani refuses such money, it still does not register with him that he has been beaten and must go back to where he was before. However, this is common. With many battered warriors, it doesn’t register that they can’t command after training in those days.
