In Gurugram, on November 29, a taxi driver robbed a woman and her child in a BluSmart taxi at gunpoint.
The driver reportedly pulled out a gun, forcing the woman to transfer Rs 55,000 from her mobile phone. He then ran off with some of her belongings.
Taxi company BluSmart apologized to the victim, assured that swift action would be taken against the perpetrator and promised to strengthen safety protocols for its drivers.
Taxi driver Sonu Singh picked up the woman and her son on November 29 at Airia Mall in Gurugram, their destination was Microtek Greenburg in Sector 86.
However, when the taxi reached Sector 83, the driver allegedly pulled out a gun, forcing the woman to transfer Rs 55,000 through her mobile phone. He then grabbed her phone and purse before fleeing the scene.
According to the woman’s statement, the police opened a criminal case against the driver and detained him on December 1.
BluSmart released a statement today expressing its concern over the incident and saying they were “deeply saddened” by what happened. “We are taking immediate steps to further strengthen our safety protocols, including additional training for our driver partners and advanced technology solutions. We apologize to the affected family and pledge to provide them with all necessary support. We will continue to work tirelessly to restore trust and ensure that every BluSmart ride is safe and comfortable,” the company said.
The accused, Sonu Singh, was produced before the Gurugram local court, which gave the police one day’s remand for further investigation.
Calling the incident “alarming,” BluSmart reiterated in a statement that it was taking “immediate steps” to strengthen security measures.
The BluSmart company issued a statement regarding the incident involving one of the taxi drivers who allegedly robbed a female passenger.
The app-based taxi aggregator highlighted the use of facial recognition technology to verify the driver’s identity and highlighted the availability of a dedicated telephone safety service for riders.
BluSmart also noted that the detailed documentation of the accused driver and the “quick action of the team” played a crucial role in assisting the police, enabling them to bring the accused to justice within 24 hours.
