Champions Trophy uncertainty as ICC postpones Board meeting

The fate of 2025 Champions Cup still unknown. In International Cricket Council (ICC) has not announced the date of its next Council meeting. There are reports that it could take place in a few days. However, it has not yet been approved by the ICC.

After a brief meeting on November 9, the ICC signaled that it would reconvene soon. However, it has not happened yet. Even top officials remain in the dark. The wait now turns to Jay Shah, the newly appointed ICC chairman. He will officially take up his role after the Dubai headquarters reopen later this week.

Why the delay in the meeting of the ICC Council?

One of the controversial issues was whether Pakistan would be the sole host of the Champions Trophy. According to recent reports, PCB has proposed ‘Partnership Formula’ or ‘Fusion Formula’.

According to this proposal, Pakistan It appears to be open to a hybrid hosting model, but with one condition: India must also adopt a similar design for global tournaments over the next three years. Pakistan has demanded that their matches also be played at neutral venues. These include the Women’s ODI World Cup in 2025 and the Men’s T20 World Cup in 2026.

BCCI is yet to react to the proposal. However, any decision by the council would involve consultation with the Government of India. The Indian government remained committed to its stand on cricket ties with Pakistan.

The ICC is organizing a broadcasters workshop on December 5

Speculations point to a possible face-to-face meeting after December 5, when Jay Shah will officially step into the role. Although the virtual meeting could technically take place by then, insiders at the ICC seem completely uncertain about the final date.

To make things more interesting, the ICC has organized a broadcasters workshop to be held in Dubai on December 5. Media partners including Jio Star from India will be participating in this annual event. While there are updates on the Champions Trophy, ICC sources stress that the workshop is not specifically related to the tournament.
