As Carrie prepares to defend Taiwan, she discovers that not everyone thinks the way she does.
Following tensions between Taiwan and China, 25-year-old Carrie Chang enrolls in civil defense classes and begins training in firearms. Like hundreds of young people, Carrie is learning the skills she believes she will need to defend herself in the event of a Chinese invasion. But Carrie’s father, Mr. Who, thinks she is wasting her time. As Carrie advocates for Taiwan’s independence, she listens to friends and family who believe Taiwan and China must work toward reunification if both sides want peace. As Carrie reflects on her views, she questions whether she should continue preparing for the day she feels will never come. Divided Straits is a documentary by Roger Cheng and Julie Zhu.
