Donald Trump said he would not try to oust Federal Reserve chairman Jerome Powell in January.
When asked by US reporters if he would change it in January, he said: ‘No, I don’t think so,’ despite having argued with Powell in the past about the rate levels.
It follows Powell’s comments that he will not agree to leave his post early if Trump tries to oust him
Powell said that removing one of the Fed governors before the end of their terms “is not allowed under the law”.
