Maryanne adds: ‘If you arrive in the EU, you may need to undergo official controls by the authorities.

The European Commission explains that personal goods containing “meat, milk or their products” can pose a real risk to animal health throughout the trade union.

“It is safe to digest these sandwiches at the airport and on the plane, but it must be disposed of before you get off the flight or as soon as you enter the terminal on the other side,” says Maryanne.
She adds: “To avoid fines or possible criminal prosecution, ensure that any meat or dairy products are not transported to the EU.”
Travelers may not bring meat, milk or their products to the EU, but there are exceptions for powdered milk and baby food.
Holidaymakers may bring up to 20 kg of fish in the EU or up to 2 kg of honey, living oysters, living mussels and snails.
The rules do not apply to tourists traveling between EU member states or for animal products from Andorra, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, San Marino or Switzerland.
