Facebook is launching support for passages both in iOS and Android, the social network announced On Wednesday.
Passkey session starts make it harder for bad actors to remotely access your accounts because they require physical access to your phone. Unlike standard session beginnings, Passkeys uses face ID or Touch ID, a PIN or physical security authentication key to validate the session starts.
Passkeys eliminates the need to rely on username combinations and password, which may be fishing and other problems.
Facebook says Passkeys will also start publishing in Messenger in the coming months, and that users will be able to use the same passage key from the two services.
Passkeys can also be used to make information on automatic payment when you make purchases via Meta Pay, according to Facebook.
To set up a passage key, go to the new “Passkey” option at the account center on the Facebook Settings menu. Once set up, you can start using your Passkey to log on on Facebook on the phone. You can still use other methods of authentication, such as your password, to access your account so that you can still access the social network when using a device that does not support passages.
Facebook is one of the many technology companies to introduce Passkey support over the last year. Other big names that have done it include Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, Google, Paypal, Tiktok, Whatsapp, Xand Girub.
