“Unfortunately I’m 13 years late,” Martin said recently The Hollywood journalist of his progress in the highly anticipated sixth entry in the A song of ice and fire series. “Every time I say that, I think, ‘How could I be 13 years late?’ I don’t know, it happens one day at a time.
At this point, I ask the writer for information Winter winds is almost old hat: Even THR, which spoke with Martin about his plans to make a series of short films inspired by the work of his good friend and fellow sci-fi author Howard Waldrop, acknowledged that, as much as Martin wavered in wanting to talk of the book or not, in a certain sense I cannot talk to him at this point without asking. At that point, Martin himself offered a vague but existential update. “(Twenty of Winter is) still a priority. Many people are already writing obituaries for me. “Oh, it will never end.” Maybe they’re right. I do not know. I’m alive now! It seems quite vital to me!”
Martin also added that he probably won’t retire, so maybe it’s actually a case of him finishing this book or dying trying one day. Just remember that we’re all alive for now, too, and maybe some of us will manage to stay that way long enough to see those winds blow across our shelves at some point.
