Goal announced that James Cameron‘s Vision of light storm will create new 3D entertainment experiences exclusively on Meta Quest’s mixed reality hardware.

The companies said they will work to scale the creation of world-class 3D entertainment experiences spanning live sports and concerts, feature films and television series with renowned intellectual property on Meta Quest, which will be the platform for MR hardware exclusive to Lightstorm Vision.

Cameron’s creations have ranged from sci-fi adventures like Avatar, star-studded romances like Titanic and deep-sea documentaries. Cameron has also been a pioneer in fusing cutting-edge technology and blockbuster storytelling within the film industry for 40 years.

“Fantastic news… Announcing a comprehensive, multi-year partnership with Meta to revolutionize ALL visual media,” Cameron said in a statement. “Recently, (Meta CTO Andrew Bosworth) Boz showed me some of Meta’s advanced technologies. I was blown away by its transformative potential and power, and what it means for content creators globally. I am convinced that we are at a true historical inflection point. Navigating this future with Meta will ensure that we all have the tools to create, experience and enjoy mind-blowing new forms of media.”

Meta said more people are using mixed reality and virtual reality headsets than ever before, opening up exciting new possibilities for immersive storytelling.

“Through our partnership with Lightstorm Vision, we are committed to advancing media and enhancing the ability of content creators to create high-quality stereoscopic content through the use of advanced tools, including the use of AI. And as a member of the Stability AI Board of Directors, Cameron is uniquely positioned to contribute to the conscious and responsible use of AI in this space,” said Meta.

The goal is to make premium 3D content more accessible, both for creators to produce and for people to enjoy at home and on the go. Together with Lightstorm Vision, we will make 3D production tools more accessible to the wider entertainment industry. In addition to co-producing original content, the companies will leverage Lightstorm Vision’s cutting-edge technology and production techniques to revolutionize the creation of stereoscopic media.

Cameron and the Lightstorm Vision team have been driving 3D technology for over three decades, earning recognition as the world’s leading experts in stereoscopy.

“We are honored to be able to work alongside them to help reduce the production costs associated with premium 3D content and deliver a steady stream of immersive shows,” said Meta.

For more than a century, filmmakers have pushed the boundaries of storytelling. MR headsets represent the next step in the evolution of media, enhancing the viewing experience for millions of people and using native 3D in the service of traditional and immersive 360-degree environments, along with interactive elements that put you at the center of the story.

“We are in the midst of a creative revolution as studios and individual authors explore this new frontier. We can’t wait to map the future with Lightstorm Vision and enable the next generation of global 3D content creators,” said Meta.
