With the release of Creature commands this week, DC studies he wants the audience to know that each project will be unique to its heroes and villains. With the list of titles that will make up the new era of Warner Bros.’s superhero franchise, studio head and director James Gunn doesn’t want people to think that the projects will be specific to his MO filmmaking, as is known
In an interview with varietyGunn explained Creature commands it’s just a small taste of what to expect. “I liked the idea of a gentle introduction to our universe where metahumans, monsters, magic and incredibly complicated political situations exist,” he said. “And we see what the world of the DCU is through an animated perspective where it costs as much to create a battlefield as it does to create a kitchen, well, not exactly, but not as different as it would be in a movie.”
However, what DC Studios cooks up is not a menu. “One of the main things I want to establish is that you can do anything at DC Studios,” Gunn continued, “We can do complete family fare. We can do something that’s mainstream, like Superman. We can do something that’s violent and sexual, like this, which I didn’t think it would be this violent and sexual; Peacemaker it’s more violent and more sexual, but I want each project to have its own voice. It’s not about creating a world where everything is sex and violence. It’s about creating a world in which we can tell the story of a type of character in different genres.”
It will be interesting to see how the franchise party turns out once more creators enter the DC Studios kitchen. For now we’ll see how Creature commands i the peacemaker violence and sex lead Gunn to probably be more familiar Superman, Lanterns, i dynamic duo projects
Creature commands premieres this week on Max.
