32-year-old Indian national cricket team star KL Rahul has claimed that young batting sensation Yashaswi Jaiswal is a replica of 10 years ago.
KL Rahul made his Test debut for the Indian national cricket team in the 2014 Boxing Day Test at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground. He said he saw his “low” in Yashaswi Jaiswal, who is on his first tour of Australia with the Test team.
KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal shone as the opening pair
Rahul, who regularly moved up and down the batting order, was asked to open the innings for the team in the Test series against the Australian national cricket team in Perth.
The reason for this was the absence of India’s captain Rohit Sharma, who decided to quit the game after the birth of their second child, Ahan, to stay with his wife.
Rahul partnered Jaiswal at the top and the duo did an absolutely amazing job together. In the first innings, the left-handed batsman was dismissed for a duck, but Rahul faced 74 balls and scored a good 26 runs to be controversially bowled out.
Meanwhile, in the second innings, Jaiswal and Rahul batted brilliantly and caught Australia’s strong bowling unawares. They ensured a massive opening stand was built as they added 201 off 383 balls.
Yashaswi Jaiswal smashed a formidable ton and ended his innings with 161 runs off 297 balls, with 15 fours and 3 sixes, while Rahul scored 77 runs off 176 balls, with 5 fours. Their partnership played a key role in India’s dominant 295-run victory.
Also, Rohit Sharma sacrificed his opening spot in the pink ball tour match against the Australian Prime Minister’s XI and Jaiswal (45) along with Rahul (27) opened for India and added 75 runs together.
I saw a bit of myself when I was here 10 years ago, opening the batting – KL Rahul on Yashaswi Jaiswal
Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Rahul stated that he had imparted his knowledge to Jaiswal when he first batted with him and tried to keep him calm. He said:
“It’s the first time I’m hitting with him, I don’t think we’ve hit each other so far. We didn’t have enough time in the first round, but we had some talks in training before. I’ll try to get what I can from the game. I learned in Australia to share.
“I just tried to talk to him, calm him down. I saw a little bit of myself when I was here 10 years ago and I opened the door for the first time.”
This will be my first pink ball test match – KL Rahul
KL Rahul further said that he has prepared himself well for his first pink ball test match in Australia which will be held in Adelaide. He stated:
“This will be my first test match in my pink ball. I don’t have the experience of playing like some other players in the team. It’s just about talking to the guys and finding out what kind of challenges they have faced and how they are doing. they were able to adjust and make changes, I felt like it was a little bit different from your perspective.”
