Meet Mario Salcedo, who has lived on cruise ships for the past 25 years and recently made his 1,000th trip with Royal Caribbean, taking customer loyalty to the next level and beyond.
Mr Salcedo, known as ‘Super Mario’ in speed circles, revealed that he spent About $ 101,000/£ 81,000 on the offspring per year for a cabin with a balcony, which finances its sea lifestyle through investment management work.
His stature with Royal Caribbean is such that crew on some ships created temporary offices on the deck for him – complete with blocked tables and chairs and plates that read ‘Super Mario’s Office’.

“I’m so used to being on ships that it feels more comfortable to me than being on land.”
The full -time cruiser tells allthingscruise.com that he went to the open sea permanently after being ‘tired of the pack-and-tie business world and the long flights to international customers’.
After going on his first voyage in 1997, the Cuban-born businessman was addicted.

He tested a few vessels, but settled on Royal Caribbean as the company with the ships he liked the best.
He has been living almost continuously on Royal Caribbean ships since the year 2000, spending only a few days a year on land and breaking for 15 months during Covid.
His 1,000th speed was on the Explorer of the Seas with 3,286 passengers, who left Miami on January 5 for an 11-night journey to Panama and the southern Caribbean.
Mario said he spent about five hours a day on work and ‘fun’ for the rest of the time.
“It’s zero stress,” he says. “The best lifestyle I can find.”
