Mikey Madison is finally coming to terms with what he did. A few years ago, this year’s Oscar star hopeful Anora she played Amber in fifth Cry movie. In the following (simply titled Cry), Amber is eventually revealed to be not just one of the two Ghostface Killersbut the one who killed Dewey, David Arquette’s character from the original Cry. It was a big dealone that Madison didn’t fully understand at the time.
“I have to be honest, when I made the movie, it seems naive, but I wasn’t that aware of the huge fan base of the franchise, which I’ve now been able to discover,” Madison she told Collider Ladies Night. “Cry and horror fans and people who love horror movies are the best people ever, but I really went into it naively.
Only three characters: Sidney (Neve Campbell), Gale (Courteney Cox) and Dewey (Arquette) survived the original. Cry movie, so killing one was a big surprise. And the fact that it was Dewey specifically was very impactful. He is a character who up until that point was considered almost invincible, having survived all sorts of stabbings and other attacks. It is a quality that has endeared him deeply to the public. Fans of the trilogy took the loss hard, and apparently, some even blamed Madison.
“I remember being a little sad because I thought, ‘Oh, such a great character. It will be sad to see him go. “And then I realized the pain that so many people felt,” he said. “People came up to me and said, ‘I hate that this happened. I’m mad at you.” And I say, ‘I’m so sorry, I didn’t write the script!’ I didn’t want to do it.
In our opinion, killing Dewey, or at least one of the legacy characters, had to happen for now Cry torch to be passed on appropriately to this new generation. And although this has since been tinkered with in terrible ways (Campbell abandons part sixMelissa Barrera fired from part seven, etc.), raising the stakes by killing someone important was the right decision. We imagine this too has to happen again soon.
Madison is currently visible Anora; THE Cry franchise, with Campbell and Cox returning as co-stars, we will return next year.
