OpenAI CEO Sam Altman sits down with Shannon Brim to discuss the positives and potential negatives of AI and the importance of maintaining the lead in the AI industry over China.
Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, creator of ChatGPT, said on Sunday that he looks forward to working with the incoming Trump administration, adding that he believes President-elect Trump will succeed in helping make America a leading global power in artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure.
Altman made the remarks during an interview that aired on “Fox News Sunday,” where he emphasized how “very important” it is for the U.S. and its allies manage the infrastructure which will support the advanced development of artificial intelligence, especially in the technological race against China.
“AI is a little bit different from other kinds of software in that it requires a huge amount of infrastructure, electricity, computer chips, data centers, and we need to build that here, and we need to be able to have the best AI infrastructure in the world. in the world to be able to lead with technology and capabilities,” Altman said. “I think President-elect Trump is going to be very good at that.”
“(I’m) looking forward to working with (the Trump administration) on this,” the chief technology officer continued. “We think it will be very important. It looks like it’s going to be one of those extraordinary moments in the history of technology. And we strongly believe that the United States and our allies should lead this.”

Altman isn’t the only tech leader who has recently expressed a desire to work with Trump.

Trump adviser Stephen Miller confirmed the meeting during Wednesday’s episode of “The Ingraham Corner,” saying, “Mark Zuckerberg, like many business leaders, understands that President Trump is an agent of change, an agent of prosperity.”

Other tech titans who supported Trump on the eve of his election victory include Tesla CEO Elon MuskPalantir Technologies co-founder Joe Lonsdale, venture capitalist David Sachs, Andreessen Horowitz founders Ben Horowitz and Marc Andreessen, and Gemini cryptocurrency exchange co-founders Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss.

While Altman praised the progress made by artificial intelligence tools such as diagnostic assistance, tutoring and small business needs, The CEO also acknowledged the shortcomings of the technology.
“On the downside, you know, I’m sure it will work out affect jobs, Altman said. “It will make a lot of jobs better and more productive, but some will get worse and some will disappear altogether.”
Altman added that criminals could use AI models to hack into systems, and US adversaries could potentially create national security issues with powerful AI.

“So I think we have a lot of work to do and we really have to stay in the lead,” he said.
