The push for electric cars is heading for a ‘Darwin moment’ that could see many manufacturers forced into bankruptcy, the global CEO of Peugeot has warned.
Speaking at the Guild of Motoring Writers’ annual dinner in London, where Linda Jackson received the President’s Award for her contribution to the industry, she said: ‘We are all trying to sell more electric cars to people who may not want to sell them.’
Much of the sector feels they need help with consumers – and more public subsidies and incentives to buy EVs.
But Ms Jackson said: ‘There is not a lot of help coming in.

Warning: Peugeot’s global CEO Linda Jackson has expressed her concerns
‘I think it’s going to be a rollercoaster.
“It’s a big question” whether the government’s goal of being fully electrified by the end of 2030 will be met.’
Coventry-born Jackson will be global CEO of Peugeot from 2021.
As CEO of Citroën in 2014 she became the first British woman to run a car manufacturer and only the third woman to do so in the entire automotive industry.
To women starting out, she insists: ‘I was doing really well when I was in trouble. So go ahead. There is no glass ceiling.’
