Police start a new search near Priya Dr Luz in Portugal

Portuguese and German officials have launched a new search for Medeline McCan in Portugal nearly two decades after the disappearance.

Medeline was three years old when Priya Dr Luz’s apartment complex disappeared during the family holidays on May 3, 2007.

The disappearance of the British toddlers led to a police investigation across Europe, and is one of the most unsolved persons of Europe.

On Monday, the Portuguese police searched the search, with the German prosecutors held warrants between the missing resort, and at the time the German investigators were living. The site is reported to cover 21 plot land.

The search for the Municipality of Lagos near Priya Dr Luz in a working, tourist area – will continue till Friday.

Tuesday morning, the Portuguese fire engine and Four vehicles carrying the German police arrived at the search site – 3.5 miles from the Ocean Club Resort, where Medeline and his family survived.

Roads going to the site – this is substantial and mostly scrubland – closed since Monday, but the attention of the day is found on unused buildings near the coast.

The team is clearing grass and vegetation around the search site, as well as looking good structures. A large, blue tent is also built in the same area.

About 30 German officers are expected to participate in the search.

Charlie Hedges, the former head of the National Crime Agency, who worked in some of the highest profile cases in the UK, said investigators appeared to be “a little wide”.

“(That’s) seems a bit widespread that they are looking for something specifically,” he told the BBC. “If this is a vision soce argument, it will be defined and you are supposed to be the same.”

However, he said he should be quite justified to get search warrants.

“They need to be approved for funding from Germany, and this is to work abroad with the number of resources and a lot of cost with the rest.”

Medeline’s case was initially managed by the Portuguese officers with the help of Metropolitan Police.

German investigators have taken the lead since 2020 when German national Christian Brookner recognized him as their main suspects.

The 48 -year -old is currently in a sentence in Germany for the 72 -year -old American tourist rape in Portugal in 2005. They will be released in September, but they can be pushed to the beginning of 2026 if they do not pay the fines they have to pay.

German authorities are afraid that Brookner is not accused of anything, he will disappear after his release.

The German police have been murdered by him. The British police continue to consider the case as an investigation of missing persons.

Brookner has repeatedly denied any involvement and no charges have been brought against him in connection with her disappearance.

Portuguese authorities have named Brookner as a formal parent or “argument”. He said he would hand over any evidence seized in a recent search to German authorities.

Met police, who said this week, said that the German police were aware of the searches in Portugal and continued their investigation into the disappearance of Medeline.

Known as Operation Grange, the case has been going on since 2011 and has been around 3 13.3 million.

Officials have not revealed this recent search in Portugal based on any new information, appearing to be taking one last look at places where they can hide the body.

The German police have a European warrant, which has been approved by the Portuguese prosecutors, allowing them to search for private land.

The last search took place two years ago and the Medeline was focused around the reservoir that appeared last.

Breakner, who spent time in the area between 2000 and 2017, was found to have SPs and videos near the reservoir.

Mr. Hedges said the latest search area was “the gap he is trying to plug.” He suggested that Brookner’s imminent release was “probably driving things” and the police need to “nail” more evidence.

The night Medeline disappeared, her three -year -old daughter and her younger twin siblings were sleeping in a ground floor apartment while her parents were in a dinner tin at a restaurant.

Her mother Kate discovered that she was missing at about 22:00 pm.

The German documentary in 2022 has found evidence that Brookner was occasionally working as a handman at the Ocean Club, but the German prosecutors attached their mobile phone data and car sales against them.

Last month, Medeline’s parents recognized the 18th anniversary of the disappearance of the disappearance, saying that his “visual mination, which did not leave any stone, was strong.”
