Ponting compares Bumrah to fast bowling legends
Ponting compared Bumrah to the likes of Kurtley Ambrose and Glenn McGrath in the past who can create relentless pressure on the batsman.
“Big fast bowlers make it extremely difficult to score,” Ponting noted. “With Bumrah, you don’t just face deliveries, you face non-stop questions. It makes batting uncomfortable.”
Bumrah’s performance against Australia it is undeniable. He has scored 40 wickets in just 8 Tests against Australia at an average of 18.80. This opened the debate about his place among the game’s all-time greats.
Australia’s Glenn Maxwell believes that Bumrah may become “the best fast bowler of all time”. Ponting was not far off, but he went a step further and called him India’s best pacer.
“Before him, few people have dominated all three formats like him,” Ponting said. “If he keeps up this level, people will remember him as one of the best.”

Bumrah’s success has fueled a debate over whether he is a ‘GOAT’ or not. Ponting believes that Bumrah’s consistency in all formats will put him at the top.
“He’s not just about taking wickets,” Ponting said. “He performs at a high level, consistently, for a long time. That’s what makes him special.”
