Activists say former president’s daughter spent $2 million in 11 days, cooking books to cover ‘suspicious’ spending.
Activists in the Philippines have filed a new impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte.
At least 74 left-wing complainants, including human rights and labor leaders, asked the country’s House of Representatives on Wednesday to impeach Duterte over alleged misappropriation of government funds.
The request follows an indictment filed earlier this week that focused on a recent public threat against the president. The incident has brought to light the power struggle between the pair’s powerful political clans.
Wednesday’s motion was over “betrayal of public trust” over the misappropriation of 612.5 million pesos ($10.3m) in so-called “secret funds” and demanded that Duterte be permanently barred from office.
The complaint against the 46-year-old lawyer, the daughter of former President Rodrigo Duterte, is the second in as many days.
Civil society and religious leaders on Monday filed a case involving 24 crimes and irregularities involving corruption and malpractice.

Duterte said Notice to have her estranged friend Killed, she revealed in late November, was not a plot to kill him but would only be triggered if any potential plot to assassinate her succeeded.
On Friday, Marcos drew criticism for warning that any impeachment complaint against the estranged vice president would distract Congress and not help the people.
In Wednesday’s complaint, the activists said they spent 125 million pesos ($2m) over an 11-day period over the Christmas holiday on questionable expenses, including renting “safe houses” and paying for unspecified confidential information.

They accused the vice president of trying to cover up the misuse of public funds by submitting fake reports, receipts and documents and deliberately obstructing congressional investigations.
Impeachment is the antidote to impunity, said Renato Reyes of the left-wing political coalition Bayan. “Citizens and taxpayers need to hold public officials accountable.”
The impeachment complaints will be reviewed by the House of Representatives, which is dominated by Marcos and his cousin and key supporter, House Speaker Martin Romuldez — targeted by Duterte in a death threat last month — before a potential impeachment hearing in the Senate.
