Floyd Schofield posted on social media that he received the contract and that it is a “done deal” to fight Shakur Stevenson in the future.
We are still waiting for Turki Alalshih, Matchroom and Golden Boy to confirm that Shakur vs. Schofield is signed for February 22nd. Shakur (22-0, 10 KOs) revealed on Saturday that he has signed the contract. Today, he posted a cryptic message, “Baby food” which apparently means the 22-year-old Schofield.
Shakur’s invitation
2016 Olympic silver medalist Shakur looks happy because this is his baby, the boy he wanted. For obvious reasons, Stevenson was not interested in fighting Andy Cruz or rematching Edwin De Los Santos. He knows his limits. Barring an injury to Shakur, Schofield is the safe pick with no real chance to win.
Some fans were hoping that Mr. Turki would veto Shakur’s idea of defending rookie Schofield and insist that Stevenson battle Andy Cruz or Raymond Muratalla. This would have prevented this abomination from happening.
The fans are not happy
If the Stevenson vs. Schofield fight is announced, it could end badly for Kid Austin and leave him, Oscar De La Hoya, Shakur and the fans dumbfounded. I say fans because a lot of them will talk about the Shakur-Kid Austin fight and believe it will be competitive and they will be unhappy when it isn’t.
Schofield and his father, Floyd Sr., led the process and pushed hard for Shakur’s fight. Despite the complete lack of experience of young Kid Austin, they are very confident of victory. He looked terrible in his last fight against second ranked fighter Rene Telles Giron on November 2nd. The fans believe The Schofields are thirsty. They know that payday will be good.
If he at least proves himself against some contenders, the folks from Schofield won’t mind Newark, New Jersey native Shakur fighting for the WBC 135-pound title.
Is it too much to ask for Kid Austin to beat two or three of these talents?
- Andy Cruz
- Raymond Muratalla
- Abdullah Mason
- William Zepeda
- Denis Berinchki
Baby food!!

I signed this contract today but believe me everything I see on social media knows what I can do is part of me and I’ll believe it when I see it 🤷🏾♂️ https://t.co/GfRnD4wp2u

“I know I can beat Shakur and I’ve seen Floyd fight a little bit and he’s a little bit of an aggressive fighter,” Jamaine Ortiz told Fighton his belief that Floyd Schofield will defeat Shakur Stevenson.
“I saw him get knocked down in his last fight and he was able to come back and finish it,” Jamaine said of Schofield’s last bout against Rene Telles Giron on Nov. 2. “If he fights hard and puts pressure on Shakur, I think he can do very well and win the fight. I think Floyd can take him.”
