WBC lightweight champion Eddie Hearn, Shakur Stevenson’s promoter, claims they made a “seven figure” offer to Raymond Muratalla, but he wanted to fight him on February 22 for $3 million.
So instead of using Muratallah, who is the WBC’s #2 ranked (22-0, 17 KOs), Hearn signed Floyd Schofield to face Shakur on the Feb. 22 Riyadh Season card.
Muratalla assessed himself
Boxing fans are unhappy with this choice and feel that the 22-year-old Schofield has no chance against Shakur. It’s another example of the New Jersey native, Stevenson, choosing his opponent to avoid getting beat and keep his hopes alive for a mega-money payday against Jervonta Davis in 2025.
“We made a great offer to Muratalla. He asked for $3 million (to fight Shakur Stevesnon),” Eddie Hearn told the KO Artist Sports Raymond Muratalla wants $3 million to fight WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson on February 22.
“People don’t see it. Muratalla, who was in Top Rank, asked for $3 million to fight Shakur. We offered them more than seven numbers to fight him. Nobody wants to fight with Shakur. So I say to Floyd Schofield, well done. Go and grow up.
“Shakur is our boy; I believe he will win, but listen. You have a chance. That’s the point, said Hearn.
