Former player of Pakistan national cricket team Shoaib Akhtar made a public statement for Babar Azam. He said that the batsman should dominate in ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Otherwise, the path will be very difficult for him.
Pakistan’s national cricket team captain Babar has been under intense scrutiny for the past few months. The iconic batsman has not been successful for his team in all the three formats of the game and this has also made him face a lot of criticism from fans and pundits.
Babar Azam has consistently failed to make runs for Pakistan across formats
Babar, considered to be one of the best batsmen in the Pakistan team, has consistently failed to make a lasting impact on the team. His poor performances have been one of the main reasons behind the poor performances of the Pakistan national cricket team across formats.
Babar was recently dropped from the Test team and was not in the squad for the last two matches against the England national cricket team. This comes after his underwhelming performances in the longest format of the game over the last few years, where he made nearly 20 runs.
Babar Azam then made a comeback in the white-ball series against the Australian national cricket team. He didn’t get many opportunities to bat in the ODI series but failed miserably in the T20I series as he registered low scores in all the three matches.

As Babar struggles to get going, Shoaib Akhtar said that while he supports the team’s batting, the right-hander must understand that the new management will not consider him for T20Is or even ODIs. In a televised speech, he explained:
“He is our star, I support him, but the thing is, with the new management, with the new mindset, he has to create a neurological wiring, he has to change that, now the new management is not considering him in T20. even for this event, even in one day.”

Shoaib Akhtar further mentioned that ICC Champions Trophy 2025 will be the place for Babar Azam to regain his stature. He emphasized that the batsman should have dominated the tournament and hit three winning tons. He explained:
“The Champions Trophy is the time and place where Babar has to be at the forefront for me, for Pakistan. He has to dominate and say I have three hundreds in the Champions Trophy and they are winners. If he does that, then he will come back, otherwise, the path will be very difficult for him.”
