A pensioner accidentally held up the famous Spanish stairs from Rome and eventually had to be rescued by police, firefighters and a crane.
At about 4am Tuesday, an unnamed 80-year-old man penetrated his Mercedes-Benz A-Class sedan Italytheir capital, when he accidentally turned to the historic landmark.
A video that has disappeared viral shows that the car falls halfway into the 135 stone steps before he stops, wraps and unable to move further.
It is then seen that the car of the Trinità dei Monti is lifted with a tap staircase.
After the incident, the area was quickly blocked off, police officers and firefighters were called to the scene, and public access to Spanish steps was temporarily limited.
According to CnnArchaeologists were also brought in to determine the terrain for any damage, which is a common occurrence with protected heritage sites.
Although an inspection has revealed damage to the vehicle, officials do not yet have to confirm whether the stairs themselves have done any damage.
Although it is unclear how exactly this accident happened, the man told police that he was going to “work” at the time.

The officers at the scene stopped him and took him to hospital, where tests confirmed that he was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and was unharmed.
This is not the first time someone has been wrongly driven by Spanish steps.
In 2022, a 37-year-old man from Saudi Arabia drove a Maserati in the same staircase, which did the monument physical damage.
Unlike this man, the driver fled the scene, but was later spotted thanks to CCTV footage and rental car records.
He was eventually arrested at Malpensa Airport in Milan and charged with damage to cultural heritage and monuments.
