The filmmakers of The Lord of the Rings, like all fans, are dying to see the return of Viggo Mortensen

With new anime feature The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim bringing JRR Tolkien back into the pop culture spotlight once again, not that he was too far from that, thanks to Prime Videos’ recently concluded second season. The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power TV Series: It’s natural for fans to dream of a favorite character from Peter Jackson’s films. THE more dreamy character, so to speak. And the people behind the The Lord of the Rings the films want you to know that they share the same desire for you to return.

Who is? Of course, the rugged, heroic, tenacious but romantic Aragorn played by Viggo Mortensen, a tough soldier who is also the “returned king” of the third The Lord of the Rings movie. It’s basically the complete package. And like all fans, screenwriter Philippa Boyens, Jackson and Fran Walsh’s longtime creative collaborator in everything Ringshopes Mortensen will play him in Andy Serkis’ next spin-off film The Hunt for Gollum.

Talking to the playlistBoyens said there will definitely be a part for Aragorn in the film, and the team wants Mortensen to reprise the role. However, this is not yet a certainty. “Honestly, it will be entirely up to Viggo, collaboratively and we are at a very early stage,” he explained. I’ve spoken to Viggo, Andy (Serkis) has spoken to him, Peter (Jackson) has spoken to him, we’ve all spoken to each other and, honestly, I can’t imagine anyone else playing Aragorn, but it will be completely and entirely up to Viggo.”

THE Gollum the team has its fingers crossed, but, as Boyens said, the film isn’t ready to start finalizing the cast yet. “Wwhether or not Viggo will do it will depend entirely on how good the script is,” he said. “And he doesn’t have a script yet. So to be fair to Viggo, let’s see if we write a good enough role and he can find enough of it to know that it’s a performance he wants to do. After that, it will be a matter between Viggo and Andy to decide how to achieve this.”

Playlist also asked Boyens what The Lord of the Rings would do if Mortensen decided to abandon the project. “I suspect if he decided he didn’t want to do it, we would still want him to be heavily involved, like how can we deliver this character,” he said. “But literally that decision is several months away.”

Boyens said he’s still working on it The Hunt for Gollum script as we speak, so whenever he’s able to tempt past and (hopefully) future Aragorn, we should know more. Do you hope Mortensen returns to meditate and sword fight in Middle Earth? Let us know below.
