The free My First Gran Turismo game is coming to PS4 and PS5 on December 6th

There’s a huge gap between serious racing games like Gran Turismo and arcade-style stuff like Mario Kart. That’s where he arrives. This is a simplified version of Sony’s iconic racing game, intended “for those who have not yet tried Gran Turismo”. The free-to-play title will launch for both PS4 and PS5 on December 6th.

Sony promises that the game is perfect for anyone between the ages of “7 and 77.” I’m not sure what my 78 year old father would say about this, but it doesn’t matter. There’s a trailer to help people get a feel for it, which shows off a selection of real-world vehicles and graphics that don’t stray too far from the main games. Sounds pretty fun.

All told, there are 18 cars to choose from and three tracks to race on. For comparison, the includes more than 400 vehicles and approximately 40 dedicated tracks. It’s also a full-price game, though probably on holiday sale, while My first Gran Turismo he is free as a bird.

The cars in this kid-friendly version have Mario Kart-style leaderboards to show off various specs, and there’s a nifty game mode called Music Rally. This makes players run to the beat of a song. Other modes include time trials and license trials.

Finally, there’s PSVR 2 support for the PS5, which brings the entire experience into virtual reality. Running in VR is super fun, but remember to take plenty of breaks to avoid the dreaded nausea.

This launch is part of PlayStation’s larger 30th anniversary celebration. The company has released some retro looking hardwarewhich sold out in a very short time, and digital themes from previous iterations of the console.
