Isaiah Colbert, IO9: What attracted you to star in Kpop demons hunters? There were some elements about the story or characters of the movie that you immediately took as actors?

Arden Cho: Initially, I just loved the idea. I love k-pop and I am about three great, impressive and bad faces that are American Asians: the American Korean to be specific. I loved the story and I was really excited to form -part.

May Hong: I like the hard thing to look, but the vulnerability that is really. How sensitive it is. How loyal he is, and I relate a lot to that. That really attracted me.

Ji-Young Yoo: I am a big fan of the k-pop, and I love doing the job for work, so this was the best of both worlds. The more I learned, the more I thought it would be a lot of fun. I mean, just from the title, as long as I tell my friends the name of the movie, they always begin to smile and I think this is indicative of the fun that is the movie.

IO9: As announced in the can.

Yoo: Yes!

IO9: You inspired you in different groups of k-pop or supernatural shows while preparing for your papers Kpop demons hunters? Was there any specific performance or series that helped you give life to your characters?

: Give: For Rumi, I focused more on his experience. She only goes through the movie. Many things are happening. I don’t want to spoil anything but it’s a great journey for her. I was very focused on who was not only as a friend, sister of the girls, but as a leader, and also as a killing. I grew up loving so many shows in this world of strong women …Buffy the Vampire Slayer was literally My favorite, always, and so I feel in a sense (this) I wanted Rumin to be very strong and grounded. But also sweet and beautiful. We cannot have credit for the things of music because we are not in the girls part, but it definitely wanted it to be as beautiful as Blackpink, APAPA, Le Sserafim and everyone. Exceeded my expectations. But I feel like I didn’t do much for it. I really can’t take credit for this. I feel like it was the world that created us.

Hong: I thought a lot about Sailor Moon. I grew up seeing -and I was really excited to see -and make the accounts of who everyone is. Whenever we would play Sailor MoonI always wanted to be a jupiter sailor.

: Give: Wait, this is so suitable.

Hong: I know, and I feel that Mira is a different version of Sailor Jupiter. I think inspiration – which are hidden identities – I think it is curious that they transform and seem exactly the same, but they have) different dresses. I feel like Cowboy bebop It was a huge inspiration for me. I think a lot about it, and how much this music is so integrated into history and the crucial that it is to sound and look like that. It feels like a perfect fusion of these two things.

Yoo: I don’t know if I had specific things I investigated because I think this is an original tone. You really didn’t need to make references. But as I started talking -with my friends more, I realized that there were things on the back of the head floating and definitely influenced it. I grew up Spies totally and Kim possible. I would say Zoey has a little starfire Teenage titans—The original show, no Teen titans go to. I am a great fan of BTS, so it is always on the back of the head.

In fact, I had a very fun conversation with a friend where he asked if (Kpop demons hunters) was anything similar Jujutsu Kaisen. Which is. We are exorcizing demons, but tonally not so dark. I am a show of the show I wondered if I affected my performance. I don’t think he never knows it consciously. Maybe people can see the movie and make me know.

IO9: Kpop demons hunters It brilliantly captures the impressive beauty of the idol scene and the nature of the three girls’ guylin, where they put on chibi and very lively one another. This style of animation distinct where you had to voice later, or made the voice and sony images their expressions to combine -during the production?

: Give: I remember my first sessions, we have just voiced and they would be filmed. So I felt a little shy.

Hong: (Laughs) Inner video, how, where is this?

: Give: (Laughs) Yes, I am like showing -to work in my pajamas, without makeup. All of these cameras are set up and I’m like: “Oh, wait for what happens!” They are like: “Oh no, it’s just for art!” And I am like “Yes … art”.

Yoo: (Laughs) I suppose the Chibi style was always a part of the plan, but there were definitely times when a reading of lines would end and they would be like “we should notice that the prey. Any face it was perfect” and it was like “I don’t know if I like it.”

: Give: I feel like animation, the strangest, the ugliest, was so perfect. This is what makes it fun. We should not feel shy, although I felt shy at first and then got used to it.

Yoo: I guess the answer is that we do not know. Probably. Type of. Maybe. Yes?

Hong: (Laughs) We didn’t see anything. We just shouted and would take videos that were used.

: Give: We don’t know. We have just presented us and they make it impressive. I know that eating things will always feel so silly. The fun eating noises that I will fight with these. Some of these are hard. I ate a lot and wanted more fun (noises of the mouth), But when you really eat, do not make these sounds to make it more fun.

Hong: (Laughs) Talk for yourself.

Yoo: (Laughs) Yes, I said this sounds exactly how I eat.

IO9: There were some fun and memorable Blooper that happened during your recording sessions?

Yoo: Too much to count, man.

Hong: A lot of running to run out of breath. I think I felt the most blatant I probably did or really should do three more laps in order to breathe. But then everyone looks at me in circles for a while.

: Give: All action things were quite silly and fun. Rumi has some romantic things that are cute. In the world of voice, you do it alone, so you feel very uncomfortable. But it is impressive and joins so beautiful.

Hong: Oh, also the bar. There is a little guard in front of the microphone. He would keep him and run in place. It is almost like an exercise.

: Give: Oh, yes. I was jumping on this and kept my life loved for all the time.

Yoo: It almost looks like a mini ballet bar and put it in front of the microphone and you can use it to support it. I climbed on top.

Hong: Who would have thought of this. Genius.

Yoo: The voice of the voice is a kind of great.

: Give: It really is. The days when you eat a ton and make all the fun sounds, and then, after making a lot of jumping for the action and you like it, “Oh no, it was too early. That’s why they say you don’t go swimming right after eating.” It was all fun.

IO9: How important is it for you to be part of a Sony Pictures animation movie that aimed to go beyond the attractiveness at the surface level of K-Pop and the action to realize the Korean roots in its history?

: Give: It is so special that they are so respectful of Korean culture in food, city and world. It is so magical to see how big and beautiful it has been created in the world of Kpop demons hunters. It is also great to see these young women who, yes, are Korean, but they are also girls who fight with very, good, normal, but not normal things. Normal if the demons were, maybe they are here?

Hong: (Laughs) Are they in the room with us?

: Give: (Laughs) You know how people have their demons? The metaphor.

Hong: (Laughs) Yes. I love universal pain and the suffering of everything. At first I was, “Is this Korean?” It seemed to me that some agreements affected me, but then it was “this is just everyone.”

: Give: He certainly affected identity battles and the whole: “Who am I really? I’m hiding something?” The struggles that rumors happen, in a strange way, I was related to so much American Korean. I feel as if this is so narrow, but also so special because it is something that involves so much about our culture, history, history and where we come from.

Hong: And it also makes Seoul so glorious and glorious. Although fiction, we hope, make people more interested in really going.

IO9: If Kpop demons hunters I had to receive a sequel, what would you like to explore about your characters in the future?

Yoo: When the movie comes out, I really have a very specific playing field that I have already explained (directors) Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans. For Zoey, some of the things that is happening to be the only North -American Asian of the group (where) feels out of place a bit of time, which I think is very resonating with anyone. I would love to see -finding a place where I don’t feel like I had to please so much. It happens a lot of energy trying to assure you that everyone else is fine and I want Zoey to be on a session on whether Zoey is fine. Maybe this is the sequel.

Kpop demons hunters Premiere at Netflix on June 20.
