Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh held firm after a controversial decision by the third umpire on Day 2 of the second Test against India. Virat Kohli argued with the field umpire over Mitchell Marsh’s LBW review, recalling a similar incident in Perth involving KL Rahul.
The incident happened on Day 2 of the second Test at Adelaide Oval on Saturday, December 7. Mitchell Marsh played on the front foot against Ravichandran Ashwin in the third ball of the 58th over. The Indian bowlers appealed for LBW as the ball hit Marsh on the wing. The referee refused.

Team India decided to take DRS and replays showed that the ball was close to the pitch. Games suggested that the ball hit the pitch first rather than the ball. However, third umpire Richard Kettleborough claimed there was “no clear evidence” and upheld the field’s decision.
The Indian players were visibly shocked by the decision and spoke to the umpire. Virat Kohli argued with umpire Richard Illingworth over the controversial lbw call. Kohli mentioned that KL Rahul was given out in the first Test match in Perth where there were two noises.
“KL was the same in Perth, two spikes. One was a bat and one was dirty,” Kohli told the umpire.

In the previous Test in Perth, a similar controversy arose when it was not clear whether the ball hit KL Rahul’s bat or whether the sound came from the bat. The umpire ruled it a caught pass, sparking controversy over the decision.
Australia resumed at 86/1 but lost Nathan McSweeney for 39 runs. Marnus Labuschagne, who was going through a lean run, scored 64 before being dismissed. Steve Smith went to the dressing room without adding much runs.
Jasprit Bumrah took three goals for India and Nitish Kumar Reddy got one. At the end of the first session, Australia are on 191/4 after 59 overs with an 11-run lead and will be aiming to extend it to ensure a solid total at the end of their innings.
On Day 1 of the Test, Rohit Sharma chose to bat first. Mitchell Starc dominated with the pink ball and claimed six wickets. He dismissed Yashaswi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, Ravichandran Ashwin, Harshit Rana and Nitish Kumar Reddy as India were bowled out for 180 in their first innings.
