He is undoubtedly the best fast bowler in the world in all formats of the game – Ricky Ponting

Jasprit Bumrah is the designated vice-captain of India’s Test team and in Rohit Sharma’s absence, he captained the side to a dominant 295-run win over Australia in the Perth Test.

He led the way with the ball after the Indian batsmen failed in the first innings. Bumrah made early breakthroughs in his first spell and stunned the hosts. In total, he took 5 wickets in the first innings and 8 in the second innings.

On the ICC Review, Ricky Ponting said that Jasprit Bumrah emerged as a true leader in the Perth Test and showed the world that no bowler is better than him. He stated:

“It was very important for the captain to get up. I think he has shown everyone why he is the best fast bowler in the world in all formats of the game.”

I think he is definitely India’s greatest fast bowler – Ricky Ponting

Ricky Ponting said Jasprit Bumrah was on another level series ongoing opening of Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. He stated:

“What he did there, not just in the first innings but for the whole game – his pace, his tenacity, his ability to move the ball, his ability to connect with the stumps and hit the stumps, (was) the difference between the game. He and everyone else who bowled in this match.”

Ricky Ponting has claimed that Bumrah is undoubtedly the greatest batsman to ever come out of India, adding that if he continues to perform as he is doing now, he can finish as the best.

“I think he is definitely the greatest fast bowler in India. Not many greats before him played all three formats like he did. I can put my hand up and ask people to sit back and watch and say that in T20 cricket, one-day cricket and Test cricket, he is the best right now,” said Ricky Ponting.

“It’s not all about wickets. It’s about playing at a high level for a long time. We saw the other day how good he can be given the conditions. If he continues the way he is, give, then what many people say Glenn Maxwell said, I’m sure,” Ponting said, highlighting Maxwell’s “probably the best fast bowler ever” comment for Bumrah.

I would charge him every ball, run through the wicket and hit him back over the head – Ricky Ponting

Ricky Ponting was also asked how he planned to tackle Bumrah if he was still playing in an Australian shirt. The legendary skipper came up with a humorous response saying that he got angry and smashed the bowler over his head. He elaborated:

“I was charging him every ball, we were running through the wicket, I was hitting him over the head again. It’s quite a joke, but I was trying to be proactive and put pressure on the bowler. I was reacting to the ball, but I was trying , to score, the reason he is so good is because he doesn’t allow you to score.

“The best left-handers don’t allow you to score, the best batsmen don’t allow bowlers to bowl that way. I do the same.”
