Life as a WIRED Gear writer comes with certain demands. Many of us love outdoor activities, such as climbing, current, skiing, campingor ride a bike. But these sports are expensive and you need specialized clothing to avoid freezing to death. That doesn’t include all the time we spend rummaging through boxes and forcing our spouses to help us unpack TVs and move treadmills i pizza ovens. It’s a hard life, but somebody
You also want people to look at you and think, “This person spends most of their time swinging teapot bells and watching videos of autonomous cars?” Thanks to Black Friday, you can. Here are the best deals on our favorite fashion finds that also keep us warm and dry while we’re out and about.

WIRED’s Black Friday 2024 coverage
Team Gear by WIRED try the products all year round and pick up these Black Friday deals. I’ve covered sales events like Prime Day and Black Friday for nearly a decade, as have many of my peers. We’ll be updating this guide periodically throughout Black Friday and Cyber Monday by adding new deals, correcting prices, and removing deals that haven’t ended.
Jacket deals
After the holidays, reviewer Scott Gilbertson will write his ode to waxed canvas, the OG weatherproof material. In the meantime, we have your choice the most masculine jacketwho is the tarpaulin truck driver you can see in Pedro Pascal a The last of us. It’s the only jacket that will repel zombie blood from your flannel or hoodie as you fight to save the ones you love.—Adrienne Sound
This is our favorite daily rain jacket. The exterior is made of 100% rubberized PVC, with a comfortable cotton and polyester lining. It has double-welded seams to keep water out, the hood is big enough for a large beanie or baseball cap and roomy enough to fit a vest. We recommend it for those who live in a rainy climate and dread having to re-waterproof their raincoats every season.
This is WIRED editor Adrienne So’s favorite waterproof jacket. Although it has a waterproof rating of 10.2K, the fabric remains stretchy, soft and breathable, while the cut is close and tidy. WIRED editor Adrienne So says she wore it for several hours while running in the rain, and the water continued to build up without getting uncomfortable underneath. If it’s hot, you can also open the mesh pockets to ventilate. We also like that it comes in bright colors (for high visibility) and has reflective details.
If you enjoy hiking, look no further than the Arc’teryx Beta Jacket. Not only is it lighter and thinner, but it also comes equipped with a new PFAS-free Gore-Tex expanded polyethylene (ePE) membrane to prevent wind and rain from escaping, while allowing steam to escape the sweat In addition to the ePE membrane, there is a soft support fabric, recycled nylon face fabric and a C0 DWR coating (which refers to the complete absence of harmful fluorocarbons. Arc’teryx currently maintains 30 percent off sale on your website.
We don’t recommend the Teca Fleece for sub-zero temperatures, but it will do the trick if you live in an area where you can get away with your omission. It’s thin and breathable, but still leaves room for extra layers. Meanwhile, the flexible material will not make you feel restricted. The color block design also adds a nice retro touch.
This is a great mid-weight jacket that you can layer under a rain jacket or over a t-shirt. 100 percent done merino woolit is dense but also soft. It will easily help you stay warm when the temperature drops during the upcoming winter season. It also looks very stylish and comes in some nice colors. Be sure to use the code “ADVENTURE INCLUDED” to see the discount at checkout.
T-shirt deals
This hoodie has a sporty look, but isn’t so tight that you can’t layer underneath. In addition to a hood, it also has thumb loops and a high collar with a zipper. While it’s best for winter, it’s also great for other activities like cycling or doing yard work when it’s a little cooler outside. Be sure to use the code “ADVENTURE INCLUDED” to see the discount at checkout.
I’ve been running for miles every day to get away from my family (haha, just kidding, I love you!) and I realize I need more merino wool base layers if I’m not going to do the laundry every day. This is our favorite base layer, with durable seams that won’t chafe if you’re wearing it under a pack. I wear it under my running jacket on colder than 30 degree days.
I can see I’m being a bit manly here (we’ll let my spouse deal with that later). But outdoor workwear company Filson has too a huge Black Friday sale. While the company is famous for their waxed jackets, we like them too virtually indestructible hoodiewhich is currently 40 percent off. Reviewer Chris Haslam says his 2017 has survived countless camping and fishing trips without tearing and staying true to form.
yes this hoodie looks strangely familiar, you’ve probably seen it all over the place TikTok page for you. Both the body and the ribbing are made up of more than 70 percent cotton, so it’s more breathable than polyester sweatshirts. But the highlight here is the fit, which has an exaggerated cut, huge sleeves and the unique diving hood that is big enough to swallow the whole head and zips over the face.
We recommend this hoodie for those who want an oversized, structured fit. The Popflex cloud has a nice weight to it, but as WIRED reviewer Nena Farrell says, “it doesn’t make (her) look like a marshmallow looking for a campfire.” The waist is cinched in nicely, while the dropped shoulders and large hood cover your body but still retain their shape and structure. It looks great with leggings, skinny jeans, and comes in tons of great colors.
Pants offers
These are our favorite pants for those who they are perpetually cold. They’re great for a variety of cold weather activities, but the soft, relaxed fit still looks trendy. They’re made from recycled polyester, insulated with Primaloft, have an elastic waistband and drawcord cuffs at the bottom of the legs in case they’re too long. To get the complete look, you can combine it with a combination Sequin pullover—also on sale for $142 ($47 off).
Outdoor activewear company Prana currently has a large Black Friday saleand I’m considering buying another pair of these leggings (both reviewer Nena Farrell and I have these and they’re in our Gifts for mom guide). I don’t have the patience or mental stability for yoga, but I use them to crush my reps at the gym (do 25lb one-arm pull-ups and cry afterwards). It’s hard to explain how soft and snug these leggings are, it’s almost like not wearing anything at all.—Adrienne Sound
These are titled “The Perfect Pant” in our guide Best climbing gear. They’re made from 100 percent organic cotton, so they’re very durable and feel super comfortable thanks to the elastic waistband and diamond-shaped crotch gusset. Pro tip: The women’s and men’s versions are basically the same, so if you’re a woman, buy the men’s pants one size down.—Adrienne Sound
Underwear and footwear offers
This is the best bra in our guide merino wooland I love it enough I raved about it. Branwyn is currently 25 percent off sitewide. It doesn’t make sense to wear everything organic for sweaters, jeans, and jackets, while keeping potentially toxic dyes or materials in the garments that are closest to the skin. They’re durable enough to double as a swimsuit on hiking or camping trips when I just have to dip in the water (sometimes by accident).
Everything at Rothy’s is 30 percent offand the company also holds a sale on Amazon. Rothys shoes are quite unique: they are made from recycled plastic water bottles. Not only do they keep plastic out of landfills, but the shoes are also durable and washable. The company also has a recycling program so you can turn in your used shoes and get a new pair. Reviewer Julian Chokkattu loves them! They are very comfortable!—Adrienne Sound
Barefoot shoes they are very good for you, and you readers seem to agree. It’s hard for me to accept this reality because it’s very cold outside now and also many bare shoes are surprisingly ugly. These Lems boots, however, are waterproof, well made and do not shout openly“I exchange my blood with my 18-year-old son’s.” (Sorry. I’m kidding. Or am I?) We like it too Xero shoeswhich are currently 10-50 percent off sitewide.—Adrienne Sound
These are the best hiking boots I have ever tried it. They are so light and comfortable that in the winter I wear them as everyday shoes. Zamberlan has a very specific proprietary last that fits my narrow feet and ankles even better than heat-molded boots, and the company claims its waterproofing lasts the life of the boot. My boots haven’t reached the end of their useful life yet, but I intend to jump a river all winter in the rain, just to find out.—Adrienne Sound
Other clothing deals
Here are a few more deals we can’t pass up.
We have a guide coming up on the best running shoes coming out after this holiday, but these shoes are in. I like the Altra for the wide toe box, which lets my foot spread out, and the zero heel-to-toe drop, which means my Achilles tendon flexes properly and doesn’t give me tendinitis in my long runs. This is the company’s versatile road-to-trail option that I can take for runs to the trails, runs through the woods, and back home.—Adrienne Sound
This is another runner-up hoodie in our guide The best hoodies. This is a cotton hoodie with a much looser weave than some of our other options.
The posture is maintained 30 percent off sale sitewide with code CYBERWEEK. My goal is to only have to do laundry twice a week during the winter, so I’m thinking of buying another three pack of performance crew socks. They are lightweight nylon and hold their shape great, absorb sweat well and don’t wrinkle in my shoe.—Adrienne Sound
